Internationalization at MRU

Learning has no borders. Today, all great universities are international in their scale, scope and reach. This includes sending students abroad and inviting international students to study locally. Mount Royal has an international education program widely regarded as one of the best by our peers and students alike.

At Mount Royal, international opportunities are integrated into many programs. International field schools offer hands-on learning in every student’s field of interest. Study abroad exchanges let students experience different perspectives and develop cross-cultural competence. International work experiences help students build their resumes with high-impact placements in co-ops, practicums or internships. Working or volunteering abroad expands students’ skills and experiences, and boosts their future employability. Help us further develop our program so that we can reach our goal of 80% of students participating in an international experience.

“I’ve learned so much about the world and myself these last five months. I would recommend this experience to everyone. I have gained so much more cultural awareness which I think will give me such an advantage in my future endeavours. I have learned to adapt and to consider other ways of thinking. I find myself more open-minded, independent and confident.”
Genevieve Ketchum, Nice France Fall 2016

International field schools: International field schools are faculty-led academic opportunities that combine one or more courses with experiential learning in the field. Field school participants integrate the course teachings and materials with their international locations. A number of field school opportunities are available each academic year.

International mobility grants: Many students want to have an international experience but they cannot afford it. Some programs, like the International Business degree, require students to have an international experience. Help us create a fund where students seeking international experience can apply for funding. These mobility grants will expand the number of students able to access opportunities, regardless of their financial means.

Global Learning Centre: This centre provides academic and social support to international students at MRU and helps domestic MRU students plan and prepare for international experiences. By supporting international students on campus we can enhance their experience and solidify our great reputation as a leader in international programming and hosting.

International scholarships and bursaries: We want to offer scholarships and bursaries so more international students can attend MRU. Our goal is to increase the level of international students as a proportion of all students from two to five per cent. This will enrich the experience of these and all students at MRU.
