"The Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) Intensive Care Unit was challenged with each wave of the COVID-19 pandemic caring for an overwhelming number of critically ill patients. At the beginning of the first wave, contingency plans included hiring a number of RNs to support the unit as “helper” staff. As a newly graduated nurse of Mount Royal University Andrew joined us as a helper nurse, and has worked through the entire pandemic with the PLC ICU team. We saw Andrew grow tremendously in his practice, rising to the challenge every single shift. As a collective unit, we are saddened to learn of his passing. Andrew was a bright star on the unit. It was a privilege to work with Andrew. His smile and positive energy will be missed every single day, and he will continue to be remembered as an irreplaceable PLC ICU colleague."
