Yes, Mount Royal University (MRU) runs all of it’s fundraising through our foundation, which is a non-profit institution. MRU relies heavily on philanthropy to make sure it can supply the best education possible for its students.

- How do I get a tax receipt?
If you make a gift online, you will automatically get a tax receipt via email. If you make your donation over the phone, in person or by mail, your tax receipt will be processed within two to five business days after it is received. It will then be mailed to the address we have on file for you. To contact donations processing for additional questions, call 403-440-7700.
Donations of $25 or more receive a tax receipt.
- Will I receive a tax receipt if I make an anonymous gift?
Yes. We issue receipts for all gifts of $25 and more. If you wish to remain anonymous, your name will not be published in our donor recognition materials online or in print.
- Can I control if and how my donation is published?
Yes, on the donation confirmation page you will be prompted to select the level of privacy you are comfortable with or remain completely anonymous.
- What is your information privacy policy?
The personal information that you provide to Mount Royal University is collected under the authority of the Post-Secondary Learning Act (s.65) and the Protection of Privacy Act (ss. 4(a) & (c)). The information will be used for the purposes of administering alumni and development programs and activities, including maintaining accurate records.
The University will input the collected personal information into automated systems to fulfill the purposes stated above. This may include activities such as to generate content, evaluate programs or make institutional recommendations and predictions.

- How do I make a gift of marketable securities?
We gladly accept gifts of marketable securities as a way of fulfilling your pledge and are grateful for your support. Download our Instructions for Gift of Marketable Securities.
To make a gift of marketable securities, please note:

You endorse or sign over ownership of securities to Mount Royal University through your broker (please see link below for instructions to your financial advisor/broker for transfers). Please copy the Mount Royal University Foundation and Mount Royal University Financial Services on share transfer instructions.
- Your financial advisor/broker will advise our portfolio manager of the details of the gift of shares (please use link for transfer directions). The Foundation will work with Mount Royal University Financial Services to receive the shares into the University’s investment portfolio.
- RBC Dominion Securities will advise us when the transfer is complete. The fair market value of the shares will be verified. This is the share price at the end of trading on the date of transfer, multiplied by the number of shares.
- Once appropriate supporting documentation as confirmation that the gift has been received, the Foundation will issue a tax receipt for the fair market value of the gift.
- Does the Foundation accept Gifts in Kind?
Yes. Mount Royal University Foundation is pleased to accept gifts in kind when appropriate. These gifts may include equipment, books, artwork, securities or any other non-cash gift. Donors of non-monetary eligible gifts (or gifts-in-kind) are entitled to receive an official receipt that reflects the fair market value of the gift. Gifts in kind will be considered using the following process:
- The Foundation will only accept gifts in kind that support the goals of the University and are needed at the time of the donation.
- An unbiased third party must evaluate the gift and document fair market value.
- All gifts in kind must be compliant with the guidelines set by the Canada Revenue Agency www.cra-arc.gc.ca
- The gift will be recorded and processed in the Foundation’s database.
- A charitable donation income tax receipt must be issued for the proper amount once all the above has been satisfied.
- The Mount Royal University Foundation reserves the right to decline any gifts that do not support our mission or strategic priorities.
