MRU Giving Day FAQs

What is MRU Giving Day?
This year on Tuesday, Dec. 2, Mount Royal University will host its fifth Giving Day. This 24-hour campaign is a way to celebrate philanthropy on campus and highlight the impact of our generous donor community.

Join us to see the real impact of giving — through stories from students, alumni and faculty whose journeys have been shaped by your support.

Together, let’s elevate every student.

How can I make my Giving Day donation?
The best way to make an immediate impact is by giving online at mru.ca/GivingDay. Online gifts are the best way to ensure your donation qualifies for matches and challenges - helping your generosity go even further to elevate every student.

If online giving isn’t an option for you, we encourage you to give by phone at 403.440.7700 during business hours. You can also donate by mail as long as cheques are received by Dec. 2 and clearly marked as Giving Day donations.

What is a matching gift?
A matching gift is a way to increase your impact. For every eligible donation you make during the Giving Day campaign, your gift will be matched - dollar for dollar - up to $500, while matching funds remain. This means even more support for Mount Royal University students!

When does the matching gift period take place?
Eligible gifts will be matched from Nov. 14 to 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 3.

How much of my gift will be matched?
Your first eligible donation during the Giving Day campaign may be matched up to $500, as long as matching funds are still available.
We recommend giving early - matching dollars are limited!

What kinds of gifts are eligible for matching?
To qualify for a match, your gift must:

Be made during the Giving Day matching period (Nov. 14 - 8:00 a.m. Dec. 3)
Be your first gift during this campaign period.
Not be part of a raffle, silent auction, recurring gift, or pledge payment.

Please note:
Multiple gifts made using the same credit card will only have the first eligible gift matched. This helps us ensure fairness and maximize the impact of matching funds.

What happens if matching funds run out?
Even if matching funds have been fully used, your gift still makes a powerful impact. 100% of your gift will be directed to the area of your choosing. The power of collective giving is tremendous, and by making your Giving Day gift you join a community that is invested in elevating every student beyond where they are today.

Where do my gifts go?
While the priority areas this year are scholarships and bursaries, mental wellness supports, career readiness, and critical and emergency assistance, you can designate your gifts to any area you feel most passionate about. Every gift makes a difference, no matter the size. 100% of your donation will be passed along to MRU Students.

Is there a minimum donation amount?
Our minimum donation amount for MRU Giving Day is $5. Any donation can make an impact on the lives of MRU Students.

Is my Giving Day donation Tax Deductible?
Yes, after you make your donation you will receive a tax receipt. The MRU Foundation Charitable registration number is 14062 1103 RR 0001.

How else can I help?
You have the power to inspire real change. Beyond making a gift, you can help elevate every student by sharing the campaign and spreading the word.

Reach out to your friends, family and peers — your voice can help unlock support and open doors for MRU students. Whether it’s a quick post on social media, a message to your network, or a conversation over coffee, your advocacy builds momentum and multiplies impact.Check out our Giving Day Toolkit to get started.
